Privacy
The short version: no account, no ads on this site, no cookies, no tracking across sites. Anonymous play statistics help us make the game better, and you can turn them off.
On your device
Your progress (glory, unlocks, deeds, a run in progress, daily and weekly bests), your settings and the leaderboard name you last used are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device only. Clearing the site's data removes all of it. If you install Tidebreak as an app, the game's files are also kept on your device so it starts quickly and works offline.
Anonymous play statistics
To learn whether the game is fun, loads and runs well, and where players stop, the game sends anonymous statistics to our server. They are tied to a random code made by your browser (kept in local storage) and a random code for each visit, never to a name, account or email address. They include:
- the visit: where it came from (a tag on the link, the game site or portal, or the name of the referring website such as reddit.com), whether you play on a phone, tablet or computer, whether this browser played before, whether you opened the installed app, how long the page was open and how long you played, and how long the game took to load;
- game events: an island started, won, lost or left, the chart column, how long the raid took, the average frame rate, which cards you took, runs started and finished, daily and weekly scores, deeds earned;
- your answer if you tap a rating after a run or a daily island, and the short comment if you choose to write one (please don't put personal details in it).
Your IP address is not stored with any of this. Statistics are kept for up to 13 months, then deleted. To turn them off: Settings → Play statistics → Off.
If you post to a leaderboard
Posting a daily or weekly score is your choice. We then store the name you type, your score and its details (houses saved, raiders slain, men lost, time), and your browser's random code so your best score replaces your earlier ones. Your name and score are shown publicly on the leaderboard. To check the score, the server replays your raid from the commands you gave; the commands themselves are not kept.
Crash reports
If the 3D graphics fail to start or stop working, the game sends a report: your graphics chip name, browser version, screen size, quality setting and what the game was doing. It is used only to fix problems.
On game portals
When you play Tidebreak on a portal (such as itch.io, CrazyGames or Wavedash), the portal's own privacy policy also applies to its site; the game sends the same anonymous statistics described here, tagged with the portal's name.
Who processes it
The game, its leaderboard and statistics run on Cloudflare (hosting and database). Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else. Links to Ko-fi and freesoul.games open those sites, which have their own policies.
